This time of year Pleasanton residents look for many opportunities to volunteer. Add on the impact of the economy for many families, volunteering and helping those in need is extremely important. Whether donating time or money to Pleasanton organizations, extending a hand is needed by many Pleasanton organizations.

Open Heart Kitchen has seen not only an increase in people needing meals, but a decrease in the level of donations. Executive Director Linda McKeever said in a Pleasanton Weekly interview that the situation is like a perfect storm where donations are low and need is high.
The Open Heart Kitchen started in 1995 and serves hot meals free of charge throughout the Tri Valley.

More Horse Racing at the Fairgrounds in Pleasanton
The Alameda County Fairgrounds horse racing track will see 3 addition days added top the upcoming schedule. On Tuesday the California Horse Racing Board voted to add 3 days this season with additional weeks added by 2010 for the Pleasanton Fairgrounds.
The 2009 Alameda County Fair has also pushed back the opening day to July 1st and will run 2 days longer to July 19th. The Alameda County Fair will move from 12 days of racing to 15 days in 2009.
Random cocktail party fact. The Alameda County Fair’s Horse track is the longest running 1 mile track in the United States, 150 years and counting.
