Pleasanton School District Deficit to $6.9 million

The Pleasanton School district announced Monday that it is looking at an additional $3.3 million deficit. This is on top of the current $3.6 million deficit.

The budget set for 2010-2011 from Gov. Schwarzenegger reduces the amount received per student by $201. The district received $5,681 per student. With 14,830 students, this reduction equals $2.98 million.

Superintendent John Casey stated that the district will need to look at additional cuts to close the gap. The district could cut an additional 50 positions, but the largest cut will be in class size numbers. Currently at 25 students per teacher, we could see this rise to 30 students per teacher.
